ennifer draws on her background in law and role as a mother to write about politics, democracy, and parenting. Her articles have been published in a range of political journals, and she recently published her first book, Whole Dog Parenting. Jennifer is currently working on her second nonfiction book about gun violence in America and the experience of raising children in Newtown, Connecticut.
Jennifer grew up in rural Vermont, but from a young age her work, studies, and curiosity took her all over the world, including to Nepal, Thailand, Ecuador, and Europe. In 2001 Jennifer moved to New York City where she attended NYU’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study and NYU School of Law. As an Institute for International Law and Justice Scholar at NYU she was able to combine her love of travel with meaningful work in human rights and social justice.
After briefly working for a United Nations tribunal in The Hague, Jennifer returned to NYC to pursue writing, driven by a desire to tell stories that could be heard outside the four walls of a courtroom. In New York, Jennifer met Ovidiu, and they soon became partners in life and partners in the business Ovidiu had founded, NYC Doggies.
Jennifer’s work as a writer mirrors the nebulous relationships between her positions as mother, business owner, and social justice activist. She uses her voice to model feminism, raising daughters to be fighters; finds worlds to explore within the intimate communities of everyday life; and even pieces together her experience and expertise to share a little wisdom on parenting humans and dogs.
